Is RF engineering a good field?

Drive Test is conducted for checking coverage criteria of a cell site with RF drive test tool. The data collected by drive test tool as Log files is analyzed to evaluate various RF parameters of the network.

Drive test Log files are important to check any RF related issue.(Call drop/Low throughput and other NW issue).For example these log files are analogous to pathology reports and only an experienced doctor/pathologist can properly analyze these reports and cure the disease.

In the same way an RF optimization Engineer analyses drive test log files to identify & rectify NW issues.

DT Engineer identifies routine field optimization issues like cable swapping, missing neighbors etc. and rectify the same with the help of the customer/OMCR. Detailed log file analysis is done by RF optimization engineer by post processing tools like Actix, TEMS.

A quick learner DT Engineer can be promoted to RF optimization engineer after 1-2 years of hands on experience. Few companies recruit RF optimization engineer directly without any DT engineer experience.But no doubt a seasoned DT engineer can do this job of troubleshooting with much clarity and efficiency.
